Modern Family' Season 7, Episode 8 Recap: 'Clean Out Your Junk Drawer'In this week’s episode of the Emmy Award winning comedy series, “Modern Family,” the members of the Delgado- Pritchett- Tucker clan dig deep into their junk drawers and face their hidden issues. Meanwhile, Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland) and her sister Alex (Ariel Winter) have an unusual bonding session over their boy problems. Gloria Delgado- Pritchett (Sofia Vergara) devises a plan to get her husband Jay (Ed O’Neill) to express his emotions more. She pretends to accidentally buy a family group therapy session with renowned relationship therapist, Deborah Radcliffe.

The therapy session is meant to help access painful memories and throw them out, once and for all. The episode is aptly titled “Clean Out Your Junk Drawer,” and the junk does indeed come flying out. Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) think that they are the rockstar couple. They don’t think that they have any real issues and compared to the other two couples in the session. They are convinced that they have the best and most stable relationship. Mitchell Pritchett and  Cameron Tucker are gay and married.

Because of their unconventional relationship, they don’t want to be the sideshow couple during the session. Mitch insists that they should refrain from speaking out too much and just keep their contribution on the surface level. Jay is completely uncomfortable during the session, and he can’t believe his wife is making him miss football for a shrink session. He pretends to open up about some childhood memories and acts emotional. He then pretends to walk out and locks himself in a room.

Everyone is worried that he’s gotten overwhelmed by his emotions, but they catch him watching football instead. Gloria is furious, and she forces Jay to return to the session. The therapist makes everyone write down the list of things that drives them crazy about their spouse, and all hell breaks loose. Gloria is furious that Jay doesn’t show any emotions, while Jay is frustrated that his wife is always too loud. Claire thinks that both she and Phil won't have anything to say until she discovers that Phil is irritated by some of her expressions and thinks that her jokes are corny.

Gloria accomplishes her mission, and she’s delighted to see her husband get in touch with his emotions. Everyone else eventually simmers down, and they all start to rethink their appreciation for one another. Elsewhere, Alex and Haley meet up for a sister bonding session.

They open up about their boy problems and ask each other for advice. Alex tells Haley about her high school boy toy, Ruben. He’s a real dork, and she knows that she should be with someone better.

She admits to Haley that she only started going out with him because she needed someone who worships her, after she was dumped by Sanjay. Haley then tells Alex about her recent hook up with Andy (Adam De. Vine). Alex is shocked that Haley would hook up with someone who’s engaged. Haley knows she did something wrong, and they both decide to cut off ties with the guys.

Haley asks Andy to meet up with her, while Alex does the same with Ruben. When Andy shows up, he’s immediately defensive. He starts blabbing about how guilty he feels. Haley says that she feels the same, and they both agree to keep their clothes on from now on. Andy says goodbye, but makes the mistake of telling Haley that things would have been different if he wasn’t engaged to Beth.

This triggers another kiss. One thing leads to another, and they end up in bed.

Haley is forced to lie to Alex, when Alex tells her that she’s already broken up with Ruben. Andy and Haley's situation gets even more complicated as the show goes deeper into Season 7.
